This is a pretty good article, and John O'Neill gets his message across in the last paragraph!

'John Kerry will never call us terrorists and war criminals again," crowed John O'Neill, the Vietnam war Swift Boat captain who led the fiercest attack of the campaign against the Democratic candidate.
With his brothers-in-arms from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Mr O'Neill was celebrating President George W Bush's victory with fervour. For the Swift Boat captains and crew who fought to destroy Sen Kerry's credibility as a Vietnam war hero, it was a victorious end to a vendetta that began more than 30 years ago.
"I will leave it to the professionals to decide whether we played a crucial role in defeating Kerry, but I am very satisfied," said Mr O'Neill from his law office in Houston, Texas.
Last week it emerged that Mr Kerry had wanted to fight back against his Vietnam nemesis, but was dissuaded by his campaign advisers. He is furious at their miscalculation. The Swift Boat Veteran for Truth organisation, operating outside the official Republican machine, did more damage to Mr Kerry's image as the cool, experienced war leader than anyone else.
Mr Kerry was enraged by its television advertisements and a best-selling book, Unfit for Command, by Mr O'Neill. He was even more angry when the former senator Bob Dole - a Second World War veteran - appeared on television to endorse the veterans.
According to a special edition of Newsweek magazine, Mr Kerry telephoned Mr Dole, a fellow Purple Heart holder, decorated for wounds suffered in battle, in fury. "You can't say this kind of stuff," he shouted. "And by the way, Bob, I bled from every one of my wounds."
Throughout their campaign Mr O'Neill and his fellow veterans insisted that they were working not for President Bush, but for justice and their own honour.
They saw Mr Kerry as a man who had ratted on his fellow warriors by describing them as "war criminals", faked his Vietnam wounds, and secured his medals under false pretences. Mr O'Neill's book caught the senator out in at least one exaggeration: his claim to have spent a Christmas in Cambodia, when he was several miles inside the Vietnamese border.
"Kerry has lost his case as well as the election. We have reclaimed history," said Mr O'Neill.
Mr Kerry attracted particular opprobrium for having taken up leadership of a veterans' anti-war movement, the role in which he claimed that American troops had been involved in war crimes.
Mr O'Neill debated with Mr Kerry on television and has pursued him ever since. "The reason I will do anything to stop John Kerry becoming Commander-in-Chief is that, the first time he confronted terrorism - the terrorists of Vietnam - he took the position that they were the army of George Washington and we were the war criminals," he said.
Mr Kerry was ambushed by the Swift Boat veterans within hours of leaving the podium of the Democratic Convention, where he had theatrically saluted and "reported for duty". Newsweek reports that he wanted to fight back immediately, encouraged by an aide to Sen John McCain. The aide warned Mr Kerry: "They'll make it look like you fought for the Viet Cong."
But Mr Kerry's campaign managers, Bob Shrum and Mary Beth Cahill, insisted that he "float above" the attack advertisements.
It was only after James Carville, President Clinton's former campaign strategist known as the "Ragin' Cajun" joined Mr Kerry's team in September that the approach changed. Mr Carville, reports Newsweek, insisted that the candidate be allowed to hit back - but it was too late.

| It's nice to hear some happy words from John and some more digs "kerry has lost his case and the election..." And the warning ought to stop anyone from even thinking of running that man again. This is a good article, thanks for posting it! |

Alright, a UK paper has covered the meat of the election and SBVT's impact, that's great.
Now, perhaps a UK paper will be an easier target to get the Dishonorable Discharge scandal moving...what do you think? |

It may have looked like the Swifties were celebrating GWB's victory but what they were really doing was celebrating Kerry's defeat. That may sound like a distinction without a difference but O'Neill and the others said firmly up front that the group was composed of Democrats and Independents as well as Republicans who wanted only to expose the fraudulent Kerry and help to defeat him.
The article sort of mentions this down-page but I wish they hadn't led with those words.

I was trained to shoot enemy in the back as they flee - I understand this to be completely legal, and IAW the Law of Land Warfare - I mean, they are still enemy - and they are coming back to attack us again! If they retain their weapons particularly. Reach out to the left? Sure. With crew served weapons of mass instruction!
Can we get a redux on Clinton's letter to the draft board, his little trip to Moscow during the Vietnam War, and his demonstrations in London during the war? That target needs reservicing. I think if one has a good look at the whole crew that supported McGovern in 1972 (including, notably HILLARY) he will find ammunition enough to wipe out a Battalion of Traitor Benedict Kerry's in the political firefighting which is sure to come in four years. These people were treasonable, repeatedly.
Kerry is a serial traitor. (Hey! I just made that up! You like? - be sure to quote me on it)
Who knows why the crazy Democrats have determined, as it would appear -- that the leftist anti-war anti-everything anti-American Hezbollah wing will run that party - even if it costs them national Party status!? SO... Arm and prepare for that series of fights. And reach out to red state democrats who can't be seriously considering staying in that loser party... I mean, really!
In the meanwhile, we need to find a way to keep the Republicans honest (and, among other things), to convince them to expand the peacetime volunteer army by about 50% back to Cold War levels, and to retract smoe of this runaway prok-barrel spending. Now's the time to disappoint some corporate welfare recipients, like big farms, and industry.
Two more divisions? Let's try eight. Our current level of engagement is unsustainable even in the next four years - and after we are "done" in Iraq, we may need to go to Syria or Iran. And we need to let Congress have its share of the burden for expanding that thing.

It's interesting to see the foreign press covering the SBVT effect on Kerry while our own main stream media avoids similar coverage. When traveling to Europe I have always noticed that the newspapers and magazines had indepth coverage of issues and revealed information that was never broadcasted to the American public. For example there was extensive coverage on Bill Clinton's activities going back to his days in Ark. I learned more about both Clintons and their unethical and unlawful behavior but never saw the same coverage in the USA. Therefore proof that our media FILTERS what information we receive.
