McCrae's "In Flanders Fields" remains to this day one of the most memorable war poems ever written. It is a lasting legacy of the terrible battle in the Ypres Salient in the spring of 1915.

My dad is gone he served in WW2.

With the Vietnam Vets honor restored and Iraqi Vets honor insured I can have a great VD today.

In honor of Veteran's Day today, I went to DFW and picked up some soldiers from the USO and took them out to lunch. Took them to my favorite Mexican restaurant and when we got the bill, they took off 50% of the total. Wasn't that great? It was a total surprise on my part too. Anyone living in my area, it was Abuelo's at Vista Ridge. These guys were just getting off their R&R and returning to Iraq. Heard many positive Iraqi stories too. Let's hear it for our future Vets.

My granddad was at Flanders. He lost an arm and an eye to an artillery burst. My dad went against Rommel in North Africa and he was in Overlord on D day. He caught a bullet in the leg at Sword and spent six weeks in the hospital. When he got out he went right back at it. He told me that all he could think about when he was in the hospital was getting out and going back to kill some more Nazis. He was mad for it. He was in Germany when the Germans surrendered and stayed on with the occupation for four more years.
We used to sit in the pub with his friends and listen to all the war stories. I've never seen anything to compare with what my dad went through and I'm thankful to God for it. I hope I never do.
This to all you blokes out there who ever you are where ever you are who wear a uniform and fight for freedom SEMPER FI and good luck.

I am very grateful to our military veterans for their service to our country.

I remember in particular today my uncle who was KIA on Okinawa in WWII (and received a purple heart for that). He left a widow and two little boys. And my father-in-law who left a new wife with a baby on the way, thinking he would be home by Christmas. Instead, he spent three relentless years with no leave in Germany and France during WWII disarming dud (he always hoped and they always were thank God!) bombs and came home with a lifelong case of shell-shock and woke up screaming for years and years and years. He received no medals for that. My husband saw his Dad for the first time when he was 2 1/2. And my Grandfather who was aide-de-camp to General Viscount Allenby in Egypt for four years, no leave. He also left a new wife with baby on the way. My mother didn't meet her father till she was four years old.

I am so proud of you taking those soldiers to lunch to Honor them on this day. You should be so proud of yourself and a Bravo Zulu to you.

When I was flying from Dallas to Seattle in July, there was about 25 men and women coming back from Iraq on R & R, American Airlines bought all the booze these soldiers could drink for free for the entire flight.

DANNY MAYER AND JERRY REYNOLDS JOIN FORCES TO HOST WOUNDED SOLDIERS FOR WILLIE NELSON CONCERT

Jerry Reynolds, owner operator of Prestige Ford Garland, has joined forces with Danny Mayer, General Manager of Grubbs Infiniti, to create a memorable occasion for fifty (50) wounded United States soldiers recuperating from injuries sustained in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Friday, November 12, Reynolds and Mayer will send a chartered bus to collect approximately fifty soldiers, all Purplr Heart recipients, recovering from injuries at Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The soldiers and their medical accompaniment will travel to Fort Worth, where they will be treated to a barbecue dinner provided by Jimmy Riscky of Riscky’s Barbecue. Following dinner, the group will enjoy a concert by legendary artist Willie Nelson before returning to San Antonio.

Reynolds and Mayer recognize the importance of the sacrifices made by these soldiers. “So many of our wounded soldiers are recovering far from home and far from family,” notes Reynolds. “It is our obligation to support these brave Americans as they recover from their injuries.”

Reynolds and Mayer hope to use the event to launch a program geared at collecting funds and mileage to bring family members to be with injured soldiers during the holiday season. “Many of these young men and women are alone at the holiday season,” notes Mayer. “We want to bring a little bit of home to them this holiday season as they recover.”
