Or perhaps for yourself.
We've all heard the argument, Viet Nam Vets fought heroically in a futile war. The war may have been noble but it was a mistake because defeat was preordained from the first moment.
For years, some of us have conducted heated arguments against that view. Recently, I got yet another new book, which provided me with new arguments.
"C. Dale Walton, "The Myth of Inevitable U.S. Defeat in Vietnam", Frank Cass books, 2002. Walton, an Assistant Professor at SW Missouri State University, argues that the war was very winnable, and that it took an entire series of mistakes to bring defeat. In his opinion, even several of the supposedly fatal mistakes could have been overcome had it not been for further mistakes. Iwon't tell you details; that would spoil it for you. This is a book that will steel you for future argumentation. _________________ Hating John Kerry continuously since 1971.
