Does anybody here recall "The Contract with America"? And the mid-term elections that brought the congress under Republican control for the first time in over 40 years?
Well, this stems from that election and a Republican strategy session conference call (with Gingrich, Boehner & other Republicans) that was somehow recorded by a loyal Democrat couple vacationing in their vehicle drivin' the backroads of Florida who happened to pick up this conversation on their CB radio and in a chance of "divine providence" also had a tape recorder right there cued up and ready to go.
Now being concerned commie-Dems, this lowly couple immediately took this tape to wacko-congressman Jim McDermott of Washington State. Upon hearing the content, McDermott had to act...fast! (Republicans are not allowed to strategize unless Dems approve y'know) Rather than consult the lawbooks first, McDermott gave this illegally taped conversation to a local paper that published it. Thus Boehner sued, and years later, has finally won some compensation, with little media fanfare.
Why should we expect any less from the commie-lib MSM?
Anyhow, here's the epilogue courtesy of at least one newspaper.

John Boehner wins cell phone tap suit
A federal judge yesterday ordered Congressman Jim McDermott (D) Washington to pay Ohio Congressman John Boehner $600,000 and to cover his legal costs of approximately $642,000. McDermott tapped Boehner's phone back in the mid-90's and then turned the transcipt of the call over to reporters. The judge ruled that this action by McDermott was malicious and that he violated federal wiretapping law. You may recall this incident involved a conference call between a Florida couple in a Waffle House parking lot and Newt Gingrich and other House republicans. I remember this story, but a lawsuit over the facts of the matter hasn't generated much discussion lately. The idea of a phone conference between D.C. and a Florida Waffle House parking lot struck us funny at the time. Good for John Boehner for hanging in. _________________ A willing tool of the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" since 1981. |
