BERLIN (Reuters) - Lawyers acting for a U.S. advocacy group will Tuesday file war crimes charges in Germany against senior U.S. administration officials for their alleged role in torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
"German law in this area is leading the world," Peter Weiss, vice president of the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), a human rights group, was quoted as saying in Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper's Tuesday edition.
According to the group, German law allows war criminals to be investigated wherever they may be living.
Those to be named in the case to be filed at Germany's Federal Prosecutors Office include Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, former Central Intelligence Agency chief George Tenet and eight other officials.
The group is due to present details of its case at several news conferences Tuesday, according to invitations faxed to media organizations.

Story
Seems this anti-war group feels they can now "tweak" German laws to push their case against the Bush Administration. Even though I'm no lawyer, it would seem German laws allowing investigation of war criminals, regardless of where they live, would apply to those who committed war crimes within their country or territories during WW2, not just as they feel they want to.
If German courts decide they should "try" this case, maybe a 100% reduction of US Forces within Germany would be appropriate.
Will be interesting to see what developes. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

One group beheaded innocent civilians, blew up innocent civilians and American, Italian, British, Polish troops with suicide bombers.
Yet this moron organization wants to prosecute our side for taking nude pictures, without harming them in any way, of those same terrorists that committed thousands of war crimes.
Does anybody care what a German kangaroo court has to say about it?
Or Germany for that matter?
Why don't they prosecute the criminals that were scamming the "oil for food" program, including Germany, France and Russia?
THEY MUST BE A BRANCH OF THE DNC. |

Of all countries to be talking of war crimes,. If I were from Krautland I would bury my head so far in shame there would be no more light of day.
Bad enough my G-G-grandpappy hailed from there but he did have the sense to bail out in 1850 (or maybe they gave him the boot - one or the other) _________________ "Si vis pacem, para bellum" |

This is just another bunch of nutcases pandering for attention. The reason they're in Germany is they want to tap into the anti-american feelings among some of the euros. Would be fun if someone filed treason charges against them here, trying to overthrow the government with the aid of a foreign power or some such thing. On the other hand, it may give more attention to these nimrods than they deserve, let them toil away in obscurity. _________________ John Kerry. A Neville Chamberlain for our times. |

Sounds like treasonous behavior to me when we are at war. How about we arrest these lawyers on their return and prosecute them. Let them defend their actions in our courts. _________________ Retired AF E-8

Hey Snipe - you're about 8 hours too far south. The really good stuff is in the SF Bay.
