Kerry quotes revisited

Sen. Kerry visits to honor Vietnam swift-boat sailors
By Mark Sauer

November 27, 2001

Quote:
CORONADO -- Looking nearly as lean and fit as when he first stepped aboard a swift boat 35 years ago, the man in the dark, pinstriped suit stood at the helm once again yesterday and momentarily lost himself in a memory of war.

"Oh yes, this brings back a lot," said John Kerry with a wistful smile. "There was no spit-and-shine formalities in what we called the brown-water Navy. We were as tight as it got, officers and crew alike. We were like an infantry unit that floats."

Now a third-term Democratic senator from Massachusetts, Kerry commanded one of the light, fast gunboats in the Mekong Delta and rivers of Vietnam. He trained for the mission -- in which he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts -- at the Naval Amphibious Base here and hadn't been back until yesterday.

Kerry, 57, came back to reminisce and to give a boost (and a $5,000 check) to the emerging swift-boat memorial at CISM Field, which will honor Navy men who died in Vietnam.

Then he headed across the bay to make appearances and raise money for his Senate re-election campaign next year and sow seeds for a possible run for the White House in 2004.

Kerry, who became a national figure in the early 1970s as point man for the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, appeared right at home among the Navy brass and Special Warfare Combatant Craft crewmen who man the modern versions of the swift boats.

"Many of these Vietnam veterans are super-patriotic, but I don't hear it from them for my anti-war activities," Kerry later told a reporter. "Most realize we were right, the war was screwed up -- you can't ask young kids to put their lives on the line in a war if you're not there to win.

"And most realize I earned the right to say what I wanted, they respect that. We were trying to save lives and keep the faith with our brothers and sisters still in uniform."

but I don't hear it from them
say again Mr Kerry

When Kerry came to the base on this day to lay a wreath at the Navy and Coast Guard Memorial, he had several news crews with him and base security refused to let the press on the base to film the event. He was doing it for politics and he had promised the $5,000 some time earlier and the organization pressed him to make good on his promise. I think he paid the money for our support and votes and it was just a political ploy.

Kerry disgusts me. It will be a great day when this phony is no longer representing the US in any manner.

During this whole BS election cycle my eyes and ears were wide open, I made the mistake of watching a PBS show one night. They made a half hearted attempt of profiling Bush and lurch, I thought this might actually end up being fair. It was cutsie kerry crap with moma t. speaking to the camera three times in all about how great herman is. While watching I noticed they showed kerry stumping many years ago while running for office, Ill be damned, he had his same little group of buddies up on stage to sing his praises, I guess they would be called professional stumpers, wind them up and bring them out every 2 years Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Wink
