Short notice , but just found out.
In the hill country of central Texas near Fredericksburg, the Nimitz Museum is holding a re-enactment of the taking of Mt. Suribachi and the flag raising. Over 350 re-enactors will take part. A rancher has donated land for the purpose and they have stripped a hill to nothing but dirt to resemble Suribachi.
Saturday, Feb. 19, is the 60th anniversary of the assault on Iwo Jima.
Re-enactments will be held Sat. 2/19 and Sun. 2/20 at 2:00 and 3:30.
I'm going. All you Texans should try not to miss it. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Darn!! Too late to make it down from the DFW area.
But was just at the George H. W. Bush "Museum of the Pacific War" this past
November after the Swift Boat get-together in Austin. A must see for anyone
interested in military history. The Nimitz hotel was still undergoing renovation
Thanks for the information .... this is becoming an important Texas attraction

It was a great event , RB.
I stood there trying to imagine what it was really like to be at Iwo Jima and decided it was worse than I could possibly imagine.
My combat experiences in Vietnam were relative childs play compared to what took place at Iwo.
Hey, the good news is I did obtain Col. Olliver North's autograph. Of course, I had to buy one of his books to get it. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |
