FYI: new “progressive” veterans organization: “Veterans for Progress”…created by previous Vets For Kerry:
I fully support any and all battles that need to be waged with anyone in our government with regards to supporting our soldiers in every way they need to be supported. The problems of the soldiers in this article are real enough; however, this new group’s agenda seems questionable to me – I get the feeling that the soldiers’ problems will be used by this “progressive” organization, but then again, maybe I’ve just become too suspicious of the left… I am hoping that the Vets Against Kerry stay aware – these people are busy:

CLEVELAND — Veterans in Ohio are fighting for a new Patriot Act.
The difference is that this one is actually patriotic. The vets are lobbying the Republican-dominated Legislature to pass a bill that will block evictions, foreclosures and discharges from their jobs when soldiers are called into service. A delegation of Ohio vets is preparing to travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to participate in the founding convention of a new progressive veterans organization Feb. 24-27.
The Ohio bill, HR 426, was introduced by state Sen. Teresa Fedor (D) and Rep. Peter Uvagi (D), both of Toledo, after a series of highly publicized discriminatory acts against soldiers in Ohio during the Iraq war.
Sgt. Preston Anderson, a shift supervisor at a tire store in Carrolton, Ohio, was fired two months after being called to service in Iraq. The reason given for his firing was “failure to supervise.” While he was in Iraq, his mother and the women from her local church raised money to buy an armored vest for him. The Army was unable to provide him with one. Sgt. Anderson will be in full uniform when he lobbies the Ohio Legislature to actually “support the troops.”

It was stories like these that drove Cliff Hayes, a marine combat veteran who served in Vietnam, to help launch a new progressive veterans’ organization, Veterans for Progress. Hayes …was a leader of Veterans for Kerry in the past election. …. “We need a real national political group that will fight for veterans,” Hayes said, pointing out there are 19 million combat veterans in the United States. “We need to get out and run for office. We know what it’s really like, and it’s not good for soldiers or for vets.”
Hayes, …said that Bush talks about Christianity, but doesn’t follow its teaching. “It’s time to stop this unjust war and take care of the people, the families that had to fight it and all the people that had to suffer.”
Hayes said that delegations of veterans are expected from many states, including Pennsylvania, New York, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as Ohio. Many will be representing former Veterans for Kerry groups, but independent veterans and members of other groups should also be on hand. Military families and supporters of veterans’ causes are also welcome, he stressed.
Veterans for Progress will “work at building close ties to the labor movement,” Hayes said.
The theme of the Veterans for Progress founding convention is “NUTS.” Hayes explained that today vets are saying “NUTS” to the right-wing regime that currently occupies the White House, and that Bush doesn’t have a mandate on veterans’ issues..... |

Thanks for the heads up.
I for one am glad to see that the numbers on this swiftvet discussion group keeps growing slowly but steady.
we need to stand ready & informed we know Kerry is gonna try again to run for pres. & if not him someone else of his ilk.
They the lefty's & MSM dismiss the Swifty's but it looks like they are trying to duplicate it with thier own group.
But they can never have the passion & reslove that this group has.

Hmmm.
Looks like they care way more about being sure there aren't any combat veterans than they are about taking care of the ones we have.
Leftist rant from a veterans group always seems out of synch to me.
Maybe it's just me.

Ahem, didn't sKerry vote "for the $85 billion before he voted against it"?? Isn't it funny, they vote against the troops when it comes to any type os substantive support, they co-opt the "we support the troops just not their mission" baloney.

This certainly doesn't suprise me. These labor unions are really only interested in getting legislation passed that give the unions more power and control and forced dues.
Those labor unions couldn't care less about our vets. They are what is behind the anti-war movement, they are just doing their dirty deeds through front groups and organizations.

Some U.S. Marines say they were surprised by the decision made by Detroit auto workers about parking. It all started with the cars some Marines drove, and what was on them.
The words that have some U.S. Marines in shock came from the man in charge of security at the UAW Solidarity House, on Jefferson in Detroit. For a number of years now, dozens of Marine reservists have been thankful to park in the UAW’s lot for weekend training with no problem at all - until now.
Marines at nearby Marine Corps Reserve Center say on Tuesday morning, the director of security at the UAW told them that while they support the troops, Marines driving foreign vehicles or sporting a President George Bush bumper sticker were no longer welcome to park there.
U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Joe Rutledge told Action News, "We received a phone call from the UAW, who support us by letting us park down at their facility. They called and said they weren’t going to allow or they would turn away some vehicles."
A spokesman for the UAW released a statement to Action News which reads:
"While reservists certainly have the right to drive non-union made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn’t mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by members of the UAW."
As U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Lee Cooper explained, "We’re very appreciative, but on the other hand, it’s kind of discriminating between, let’s say a lance corporal going through college can only afford a 15-year-old vehicle and it happens to be a Nissan." |

Sounds like those labor unions really support our troops. . .as long as those troops are "politically correct" in the union's view. 
It's actions like this, and much worse, that "encourage" members to vote for and support candidates that the union wants.
Beatrice, your concerns and suspicions are well-founded.
