I just saw Jay Sekulow on The 700 Club. He said that Judge Whittimore
absolutely refused to address the explicit mandate of the law passed
by Congress for a federal de novo review of the entire case. Jay
seems to think that, if the 11th Circuit does not rule promptly, the case
could be at the SCOTUS by this afternoon. He expects that the Supremes
would issue a stay in order to allow time to refer the case back to district
court for a full review of ALL of the facts of the case. That would mean
the feeding tube or some other means of hydration would be reinstated.
Jay said (and he is an abslolute expert on appeals to the SCOTUS since
he has argued many cases before that court) that, in order to comply
with the law passed by Congress, there would have to be a new trial
with witnessess, etc. I pray that this is true!
For those of you who do not know who Jay is, he is affilliated with the
American Center of Law and Justice. This organization was established
by Pat Robertson as a counter to the ACLU. No matter whether you
agree with Pat Robertson's religious views or not, he is a brilliant man
who does a lot of good in the US and the world through his humanitarian
aid organization, Operation Blessing. The ACLJ is one of his most
valuable contributions to our society and it has been one of the few
forces that Christians have with which to fight the ACLU. _________________ Susan R. Morton |
