I wonder why after the last several mayors they have had
Quote: | DETROIT -- The city's population has dropped below pre-1920 levels, according to a report released Monday by the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.
The report estimates Detroit's population as of January slid to 899, 387 -- the lowest since 1917 when there were an estimated 820,778 people living in the city.
The latest figures show the city's population has dropped 5.5 percent since the 2000 census when there were 951,270 people living in Detroit.
Those numbers concern city officials, said Howard Hughey, a spokesman for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
"We clearly want to take a look at their numbers," said Hughey. "If it's true, it's sobering information."
Hughey said Kilpatrick is already working on aggressive initiatives to reverse the 40-year population decline, including reducing crime, improving services and bringing more jobs to the city. |

It's like a lot of other cities, they keep one taxing people and they leave. Attracting people does not mean providing services and taxing the life out of them. It means having an environment that is business friendly(GASP!!!) and not given to pandering to the municiple bureaucrats and liberal socialists. Philadelphia is choking on crooked politicians, taxes and bloated city unions. The Septa transit union is no help either. When the infrastructure reeks of incompetence, inefficiancy and corruption, you get what Detriot and other cities have. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |
