Quote: | George W Bush's brother says the US president recognises the importance of a moral voice in world affairs and plans to develop a close relationship with Pope Benedict XVI.
Florida governor Jeb Bush has praised the newly-elected pope as he arrived in Rome for this weekend's inauguration mass.
He says the new pope has the same qualities as his predecessor John Paul II, who'd led what he said was spectacular papacy.
President Bush met John Paul II three times and attended his funeral on April the 8th, praising the late leader of the world's 1.1 billion Catholics although he'd publicly opposed the US-led war in Iraq.
Jeb Bush says the meetings were more than just symbolism.
He says they reflected the importance the president granted to the Holy See and his recognition of the importance of a moral voice in world affairs. |
