I know this is off topic, but I need to laugh sometimes.
This blog started by an American teaching English in Japan is absofrigginlutely hilarious. This is one of the most original things I have read in a long time.......enjoy.
Its posted by date, make sure you start at the beginning.

I'm only about half-way through it, but it is really excellent - very funny and some sweet stories in there too.

Quote: | I was at the gym with a female Japanese friend. We were watching the news on TV when suddenly she turns to me and asks "So, you're American, right? How many guns do you have?"
Notice the word usage here. Not "if" I have guns, no! "How many" guns do I have. Because surely, as a red-blooded American, I own guns. Yee-haw, when I'm not drinkin' my root beer and eating myself damn to death, I sure love me to shoot some stuff! *thumbs up*
Clearly, I needed to set her straight. I pointed my first finger at her in the classic "Now let me tell you something..." pose, but before words could escape my mouth, she innocently said "Oh, only one gun?"
Somewhere in the world, I imagine Charlton Heston is quite pleased with himself. |
Is he implying that there still exist Americans who are gun-deprived?

Nice reportage to go with the pic....
Quote: | Taken from the National War History Museum in Tokyo. I went through with one of my friends, and we had to laugh at just how slanted the whole thing was. Laugh, or cry over the absurdity. According to the text in the museum, the Japanese "expanded their defensive concerns" into Korea, helped "establish order and control" in China, and then were "forced into war" by the war-hungry American government. That whole Axis power thing is barely mentioned, and forget about trying to find anything that would portray the Japanese as something other than a peaceful people minding their own business in the Pacific. I mean, every country puts their own slant on history (while I learned that the American Revolution was a great act of freedom, I'm sure in Britain it's regarded as "those ungrateful little punks starting s**t"), but the level of denial and disregard here was just outstanding.
This is actually why a lot of people are still really upset at Japan. |
