Edwards, Dean Address Progressive Group By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON -
John Edwards told liberal activists Thursday that despite President Bush's frequent speeches about fighting for freedom they should remember that "freedom does not belong to one political party."

True, freedom belongs to every person on the earth. But, how many parties are willing to fight for that freedom? Seems one party is hell bent on blocking every attempt to fight for freedom today.

The Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2004 also said the idea of America standing for freedom is not new.

Really? Would he like to explain that to millions of South Vietnamese that ended up being sold out by a Democratic controlled Congress in 1975? Would he like to explain that to hundreds of thousands of Viet Nam Veterans that have endured the lies told about us for decades by members of his party?

Edwards made the comments to the annual "Take Back America" gathering of liberal activists sponsored by the Campaign for America's Future. The group gave Edwards its top award, named after Thomas Paine, the writer and activist from the Revolutionary War era who wrote about economic injustice among many topics.

Yes, Thomas Paine did indeed write about economic injustice. But, I failed to read anything he wrote about it’s the governments responsibility to ensure freeloaders are well taken care of or that freedom is cheap and just happens.

"While we're working on democracy over there (in Iraq), we've got more work to do on democracy right here," said Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina.

It appears to me that Democracy is doing quite well here. If these top members of the minority party spoke out against and trashed leaders like Saddam Hussein, as they do Bush and all Republicans, they would have disappeared by now.

"How about if we actually build the best election system money can buy so that people don't have any doubt they will be able to vote, they will be able to vote quickly and they will have absolutely no doubt their vote was counted properly?" Edwards said.

Would he pattern it after the Democratic controlled election in King County Washington where there ended up being hundreds more votes cast than voters, after the third recount, giving the Democrat candidate a 129 vote margin? Would he also ensure all dead voters properly cast their ballots for Democrats, as in King County this time? Is that his idea of the “best election system money could buy?”

He scoffed at critics who say they don't know what the Democratic Party stands for.

Instead of scoffing, why not just explain what they do stand for?

"Don't tell me the Democrats don't stand for anything," Edwards said. "We do actually believe everybody should have a chance to do well. We believe we have a moral responsibility to help those around us who are struggling."

As I’ve always heard, if you give a man a fish, you will feed him. If you teach him to fish, he can then feed himself. Locking people away in ghettos receiving welfare payments and taking from those that work and struggle to give to the lazy isn’t my idea of “helping” anyone.

Edwards reminded the activists of his 2004 campaign theme of "two Americas," one for the rich and one for everyone else. And he poked fun at his frequent use of his own life story in his speeches.

I laugh every time I hear a multi-millionaire Democrat, one who used spurious science to sue the medical profession to “earn” his millions, talking about “Two Americas.” Why doesn’t he start by giving up his millions to hand over to those in “the other America?”

"All of you have heard my story more than you needed to hear it," Edwards said, grinning. "I am the son of a millworker ..." The audience burst out laughing.

YAWN!!!! Having an honest worker for a parent doesn’t guarantee the son is also an honest worker.

Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America's Future, said the "Take Back America" meeting allows "different tribes of the progressive movement to rub shoulders, share ideas."

“Progressive” movement? Are they ashamed to be called what they are, Liberals? Is there a reason various “tribes” of conservatives were excluded? Shouldn’t “One America” include discussions by both?

And he credited the president with bringing those groups together. "Bush unifies Democrats in the way Clinton used to unify Republicans," Borosage said.

Actually, it’s the out of control, in your face, attacks on majority conservative values that bring us together.

Earlier in the day, the conference heard from Democratic Chairman Howard Dean, who said the activists have an extraordinary opportunity to provide an alternative to the country after more than four years of the "dark, difficult and dishonest vision the Republican Party offers for America."

Yes, Socialism is what they offer. Work your tail off to give it away to those who don’t want to work or those that illegally come into our country. Seems to me, the darkest days are ahead of us if they ever regain total control of the government.

Dean said a big problem facing the country is "the belief that propaganda and manipulation will succeed in America. I think it will not."

Is that why this party is so deeply imbedded with “propaganda and manipulation?” Is he predicting his own demise?

The Democratic chairman said Republicans already have control of the White House and Congress and are now trying to seize control of the judiciary. He was referring to the struggle in the Senate over conservative judicial nominees that have drawn unified Democratic opposition.

Seems to me, it’s the people that now have control of the government and need to have it of the judiciary as well. Does he not realize it was a majority of the people that voted Republicans in? If the people could vote on the judiciary as well, we wouldn’t be faced with activist judges rewriting laws to suit a left agenda today.

"I always thought an independent judiciary was important for a strong democracy," Dean said. "This administration is beginning to erode the core of democracy."

NO, the administration is exercising it’s constitutionally mandated responsibility of appointing judges that agree with the administration, just like each and every President before has done. What Dean is actually afraid of is that if they lose the left leaning activist judges, they will have no power left to impose their socialistic will upon all of us.

"Howard Dean's diatribe today illustrates that the Democrat Party not only lacks leadership but is overflowing with anger," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. "Dean's priority is to generate mudslinging headlines rather than engage in substantive debate."

Like when he stated that Republicans can afford to stand in line for 8 hours to vote because they have never worked an honest day in their life? Seems to me, I have worked nearly every day of my life and still managed to vote, regardless of how long it took. If the Democrats ever hope to succeed in being a viable party again, it’s the likes of Dean, Edwards, sKerry, Kennedy, Byrd, Hitlery and such that will prevent it. Given the chance, these are the very ones that will change us into the United Soviet States of America.

Any wonder why we call them the "looney left?
