Did anyone see it?

On yesterday's "Nightline", with a guest host BTW, the issue before us as I understand it, was the "Unfit gor Command" book and the allegations therein.

In fact, the show discussed the meaning of the Vietnam War and why we discuss it 40 years later. A lot of "deep" thinking, and nothing about the nature of the charges.

When the charge is Bush's alleged service in the National Guard, or lack thereof (allegedly), whether or not he used political pull to get in the Guard and do what he did, Nightline would cover...........Bush's alleged service in the National Guard, or lack thereof (allegedly), whether or not he used political pull to get in the Guard and do what he did.

Am I missing something?

Not that anybody asked, but I'll stick my neck out and say, the reason we argue the Vietnam War 40 years later is the same reason we argue the Civil War 140 years later. It was an event of historical significance. When one speculates on "why the passion so long afterward?" I think of some of the old geezers at a Civil War reunion banquet about 1920 getting into a fight at the dinner table from an argument over that war.

That's why we argue the Vietnam War in general. Why the argument over one soldier in particular, I think we all understand why that's an issue right now......

At best, the book was mentioned in passing. I guess I can't blame them, because the book's not out yet. They probably should have delayed the show until after the book came out--they'd have much more to go on.

They have meetings two days before any show and work out the tilt

why would they go to a Vet hospital in San Francisco, and ask

some one who did not look like he was old enough to be a Viet Vet

"well no matter what the book says aren't you going to vote for Kerry

in any case"? like that is a "fair and balanced" question.

They could have given him the microphone and he could have done

the "reporters work for them"

what a bunch of fakes , their mirror must not like to see

first lite as it knows what is going to happen next.
