Just a little note that I wrote to the editor of our local paper.
To the Editor:
Once again we celebrate the anniversary of the independence of our great country. Do we remember the cost of that celebration? Do we remember those who died that we might continue to celebrate that great American holiday? Do we remember those who lived to come home again, but whom were forever changed by the horrors and hardships that they had undergone? Do we remember those who returned wounded in mind and body and whose lives were shortened by their service? Do we remember those who answered the call of their country, in spite of public opinion speaking against it and who gave their lives and their futures in defense of those who did not appreciate it? Highest homage to these unknown and ordinary heroes who fight on foreign soil so that the horrors of war do not descend on our home ground. They fought and are fighting against a cruel and ruthless enemy whose goal was and is the total subjugation of our people and conversion to their vile ideology, or death. Call it what you will, Bolshevism, Communism,Nazism or Islam, they all have one goal, destruction of of our freedom and our way of life. Our young heroes fight against this perverted ideology in Afghanistan and in Iraq, so that these diabolical terrorists do not import their “Holy War” to our shores. For those of you who do not take the agenda of these terrorists seriously, just take a look at the casualty list of their victims in Iraq. Innocents, mostly. Policemen, firefighters, children, women. They have no qualms against killing their own, do you think that they would extend any compassion to you? Recognize the enemy, people! Sixty years ago we defeated an enemy that was not as ruthless as this one. We remembered Pearl Harbor. Do you remember September 11th 2001? We will prevail against this enemy if the American people do not lose heart. We lost heart once and a whole generation has never forgotten it.
