Bet you the loyalists would disagree. So would quite a few folks in India (in particular the Thuggi sect). Not to mention the entire black population of the United States in the late 19th century (who certainly had democracy imposed on them, whether they wanted it or not).

I could point out the inconsistencies in every one of your points, and the fact that democracy was imposed, either by the people, by select portions of the population (Thailand), or by external forces. Maybe you think you can't impose democracy. I suggest you travel a bit and do some observation. What is a mandatory requirement to vote but imposing democracy (Australia, Thailand, others)?

And I could do the same. Let's agree to disagree and move on, as this has nothing to do with the initial discussion concerning Safire's Op-Ed piece.
