This organization came to my attention through a business acquaintance. I have not seen this in media reports. I like it because 100% of donated money goes where it is supposed to go, the hurricane victims needs in Mississippi. Here is what my acquaintance wrote.
If you are looking for a place to make a donation please consider going to the http://www.winstonrelief.org website and take a look. It is a bare bones site right now, but pictures will be up soon. Citizens of Winston County, Mississippi got together to co-ordinate efforts to help the hurricane victims and refugees. Winstonrelief sent a huge transport truck load of food and supplies to Lumberton, Mississippi. There were thousands of people living in an empty factory building there.. There are also several refugees in Winston County that are being helped through winstonrelief.org. 100% of all donations will go to food, medicine, supplies and clothing for the storm victims. All the workers are unpaid volunteers and any administrative costs are being paid for by individuals in the executive committee. All money you donate will be used to benefit people who need help due to Hurricane Katrina. |
