Covering last night's filibusters and the resulting rolling of Frist, PowerLine asks the rhetorical question:
Quote: | It's a funny thing: when the Democrats are in the majority, the Democrats run Congress. When the Republicans are in the majority, the Democrats still run Congress. How does that work? |
The answer is, of course, that 'majority' depends on unanimity. Without unanimity, majority is not present. Democrats have almost total unanimity with only occasional outliers like Zell Miller or Joe Lieberman. Otherwise, they are monolithic.
The Senate Republican caucus is infested with RINOs, particularly from the northeast. Remember the impeachment trial of Slick? On the four Articles, the Dems voted 100% against, while the Republicans had various votes depending on the content of the Article. The outcome was, of course, foretold, but the monolithic vote of the Dems was notable.
As Rush has pointed out numerous times, Democrats feel that the natural order of things is that they control the country. Republican majorities are merely nuisances to be dealt with with parliamentary tricks and - RINOs. And it doesn't help that the Majority Leader, Frist, is a nice man not given to fighting for what's right.
Oh, well, let's see what the House can do with the mess.

Bill Frist doen't have a majority. He's got 48 plus the McCain 7. The Democrats have nothing like the 7 to subvert everything they are doing. Problem here is that the Executive branch should be leaning these 7 to get them in line, but refuses to show the leadership or back Frist. Everyone wants to make nice to McCain when they should be taking him to the woodshed.
With people like Lincoln Chafee, former RINO Jumpin' Jim Jeffords and McCain, the Senate Campaign committee should be working for electing supporters, not weasels like Chaffee or Specter.
Unfortunately, Zell retired, but to the plus side we got Isaksin to replace him and then CHambliss gave the boot to Cleland. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |
