I caught this link at NRO's "The Corner" and (particularly as primary care-giver to an elderly parent) found it to be an extremely well-written, discomforting and compelling overview of issues facing us all with the inevitable aging of the "Boomer" generation.
Quote: | OUR FUTURE Stanley Kurtz comments.kurtz@nationalreview.com
This is one of the most beautiful and important pieces I’ve read in some time. It saddens me profoundly. Yet it needs to be read, because the aging of the boomers will someday become America’s number one problem. Your agreement or disagreement with the authors’ judgements should not prevent you from appreciating this article’s importance. This is our future. Let’s face it now and mull the problem as best we can. So, from the January issue of Commentary magazine, here is Eric Cohen and Leon Kass’s, “Cast Me Not Off in Old Age.” |

It's starting to happen here in Japan... and the population is starting it's fierce drop, so there will be problems with health care and pensions in the near future... Usually Japan is about 30 years behind America in everything.. but for once it's caught up.. which in this case might not be comforting >.<
