There's no question that this Iranian terrorist is a danger to the world, especially Israel, but I think there is more bluff there than anything else. The intel is pretty positive about the likelihood that his ability to assemble a fission weapon is not imminent. His capacity to separate the necessary uranium isotope is not sufficiently mature even if he had quantities of the raw material on hand.
Of course, he could have been handed the good stuff already by North Korea or some other source, but that's unlikely.
He is getting his jollies by terrorizing the press - and thereby the public - if not the war planners in the West. He must also realize that such an attack would receive a hundred-fold, in-kind response. I think that he is probably a pragmatist, if a deranged one, and would rather keep his country in the final analysis.
I've included one of the cartoons from Dr. Sanity's piece. One of the best I've seen lately.
Wow, that's pretty small. The dialog:
Ahmadinejad: "And with this final piece we can wipe Israel off the map..."
Reporter: "Yeah.. Whatever. More importantly, what do you think about Cheney's hunting accident?"
