Huh?
Quote: | Sen. John Kerry on the fence . . .
By Boston Herald editorial staff
Saturday, May 20, 2006
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), fresh from the ongoing Senate debate over an immigration bill, offered the following explanation of his vote in favor of 370 miles of fence at the U.S.-Mexican border (estimated cost $3 million a mile) at yesterday’s New England Council breakfast:
“I voted for it because, first of all, a lot of it is the repair of the existing fence. A lot of it is just in the Arizona area, where we have the worst problem, the most numbers of people coming over.
“And if you go down, and you look at the numbers of border [patrol] people that we have right now, and even the numbers - I put in an amendment, which passed, and we raised the number up to about 3,000 [additional] that have to be trained and put out there. But even when we get there, we’re only going to have a couple of people or so per mile, which is simply not enough. So we’re way behind, in terms of the training and production of people. And in the short term, I think this can serve us well.
“If I were making the long-term decision, I’d announce, you know, hopefully it’s a temporary measure, and we can take it down as soon as we have enough people, and we’ve established a process where we’ve reduced the level.
“And I think that should be America’s goal, absolutely and positively. But in the temporary, we’ve got to have a comprehensive approach everywhere, and change forms of behavior everywhere. It begins with enforcement. Enforcement not just on the border, but enforcement against employers who are hiring people illegally, which is supposed to be illegal.” That clarifies everything, now doesn’t it?
Who says this guy doesn’t have what it takes to make another run for president?

Let me guess, he was against the fence before he was for the fence! |

I second the comment. Huh? I neither understand sKerry's words, nor the Boston Globe editor's comments. But, hey, I'm a Texan, and I don't claim to speak and think Massachusetts-like.
But you will notice, won't you, that he's thought about it, and he has a plan...
Just out of curiosity... Anyone know if sKerry has ever visited Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, or Southern California (south of LA)? I'm darned sure I've never seen a photo op picture of him appearing all ruggedized for those regions.
<Snork> Tanya: that's exactly what he said. A fence is good, then we'll tear it down. |

Anker-Klanker ---
That's the Boston Herald, not the Globe. They are the "other" paper in Boston. They keep sKerry from proclaiming himself King of Beantown.
And, no, JFK does not like to mingle with the unwashed masses, as reported in this snippet , again from the Boston Herald.
Check it out; sixth story down, about "Sani-Campaigns."

1991932: I stand gratefully corrected. I'd forgotten all about that other paper. Now the comments of the editor make more sense. |

John Kerry-just another brick in the wall
~snip~
"Last Friday was another really big day for the richest pedigree in Bay State politics.
Mr. John Kerry chose it to launch into a series of remarks about the border fence he voted for, over elastic ham, green eggs adrift on a soggy raft, dormant coffee, no catsup of any sort, and fresh fruit, or what passes for it anyway in this long chilly New England spring.
Having cast his senatorial vote, with what appears to be that certain level of perpetual regret which follows almost every Kerry ballot, the junior senator drowsily and meekly explained, "I voted for it."
But, he blandly, and some said sorrowfully, went on about the fence, according to the Boston Herald, after a few lenitive stabs at his wilted fruit cup with his elfin sized fork, "I'd announce, you know, hopefully it's a temporary measure, and we can take it down as soon as we have enough people."
