Just had a representative of an outfit called "Texas Campaign for the Environment" call at my front door, soliciting signatures, money and letters. This group's current objective is to get computer manufacturers to actively set up recyling programs for used computers (which contain a good deal of toxic materials). They claim to have signed up Dell & HP. Their current focus is on getting Apple on board with the program. They claim that Apple has been dragging its feet, and has "actively opposed legislation in Maine, Minnesota, and Washington."
Whether you agree with their objectives or not, I think you might find it funny that their letter-writing campaign is to two key names associated with Apple Computers: Steve Jobs, and a certain Member of the Board.
Now can you guess who that distinguished Board Member is? None other than MR. ENVIRONMENT, himself - Al Gore! Do I detect a little hypocracy showing in his position on this subject? |
