Due to the sluggish rationing of care in Canada's socialized medical system, lawmakers there have proposed changes that permit residents to purchase private health insurance for some procedures or to obtain medical care in private facilities. Last year, The Patriot reported on the Canadian Supreme Court's ban of private health insurance, ruling that it was unconstitutional because the public health system failed to provide "reasonable services." Don't expect our northern neighbors to raise their lagging standards quickly, though. One proposal would allow public hospitals to subcontract to private clinics any services that they could not perform within six months (yes, six months—assuming the citizen hasn't already died). Of course, having previously banned private facilities, the government must first pass legislation allowing construction of private hospitals and permitting doctors to work in both public and private facilities. With Canadian socialists finally discovering that privatization produces a far more effective health system, we can only wonder why liberals still consider HillaryCare such a great idea. |
