From opinionjournal.com on the Ann Coulter 'kerfuffle':

John Kerry**, meanwhile, offers this observation:

Grotesque as it is, this is [Coulter's] attempt to be provocative--infamy's its own kind of fame--to get her mug on TV and sell books. Coulter is counting on this "controversy" to get her ink and sell her angry harangue of a book.

It's hard to disagree with that, but boy does it take one to know one. This, after all, is the same John Kerry who in 1971, in order to get his mug on TV, said of his fellow Vietnam veterans that

they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

Infamy is its own kind of fame, all right--and in the Democratic Party, it can even be the ticket to a presidential nomination.

** At least he served in Vietnam, unlike Ann Coulter!

I almost cringe every time Anne Coulter speaks out. She's often unnecessarily crude in her rhetoric (even when I agree with her), and on some issues, I don't agree with her at all. But on this issue - when you get beyond her inflammatory words - she's probably dead on. And there are some very valuable lessons in the latest controversy (which is at the heart of her meaning) that can help the SBVFT if we ever have to go to battle against sKerry again.

What Anne has exposed is the incredible hyporcracy and manipulation of the MSM (and the left, should anyone still believe they're not the same). It's like a iron-clad script: MSM anoints a sole spokesperson, provides that spokesperson with a set of (often fake) credentials that are designed to give them a "moral authority" position, and then conducts a smear campaign against anyone who dares to challenge the spokesperson's moral authority. We've seen exactly the same scenario play out with sKerry, Murtha, Cleland, Sheehan, and now "the Jersey Girls - to name a few.

Notice that in the latest controversy (involving Anne Coulter) the MSM and the Democrats are all over Coulter for her "vulgarity," and not a word is said about the underlying truth that Coulter exposed; i.e., if you can make enough noise and successfully smear the messenger, then no one will pay any attention to the message.

If we're ever forced to oppose sKerry again, then we need to be very consious of this script, and plan a strategy that will defeat the deafening smear campaign that follows anyone's daring to challenge the MSM-anointed "hero."
