The once-prominent Blue Star Flag that hung in windows during wartime is making a comeback. The Flag made a brief appearance during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, but because of the conflicts short duration, never really caught on. The tradition originated with WW I in 1917, the Congressional Record stated: The dearest thing in all the world to a father and mother--their children. Also known as a Service Flag, the blue stands for hope and pride. When family members were killed, the blue star was replaced with a gold one representing sacrifice. The immediate family of a service member is authorized to display the service flag, or blue star banner, during any period of war or hostilities for the duration of the war or hostilities. The Service flag is authorized for display by Americans to honor their family members who are serving in the Armed Forces of the United States during ANY period of war or hostilities. It is not necessary for the Service member to be stationed overseas, or be present where hostilities are taking place. All of the military service members contribute to the performance of our Armed forces regardless of where they are located, and they can also be called upon at any time to enter combat!

You can now purchase one of these flags by going to www.loveourtroops.us and clicking on the blue star flag. All the proceeds go to SI Yellow Ribbon which is a non-profit group that sends boxes and cards to our troops overseas. Help support our troops and proudly display one of these flags.

Thank you for the link, we are proud to have several active duty types and a bunch of vets in our family. I have shared this with my other vet friends.
