It's only taken a couple years for this Bill to get through the House in its various versions. Now on to the Senate, which is a tougher fight. These bills deny the ACLU public ( our taxes) funding for these lawsuits

House Passes Public Expression Of Religion Act: 244 to 173

Well, we are half way there! Now the legislation needs to pass the Senate. This will be more difficult to do, so we continue to need all of the support we can get. The roll call is in from the House and its not good news for the ACLU! The bill, H.R. 2679, would deny legal fees and out-of-pocket expenses to be taken from taxpayers and given put into the pockets of groups like the ACLU when they successfully sue against references to God and religion in public settings, has passed by a vote of 244-173! This is good news, but it isn’t the end of the battle. The legislation still needs to pass the Senate and for that to happen we will need all the support we can get. Keep contacting your Senators and let them know you support it!

<snip>

it seeks to level the playing field so the ACLU cannot intimidate small towns and cash-strapped schools are not beholden to the anti-American, extra-constitutional ACLU agenda.
Heh! I’m sure the ACLU will be condemning this as well…any minute!

Here is the final vote results. There were six Republicans that voted nay. Make notes.

August 10, 2006 – The Senate is currently considering passage of Senator Sam Brownback’s “Public Expressions of Religion Protection Act Of 2006,” (S. 3696)

as reference...
The law that ACLU collects fees ( our taxes) under
Civil Rights Attorneys Fee Awards act
Quote:
....the court, in its discretion, may allow the prevailing party, other than the United States, a reasonable attorney's fee as part of the costs, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer's judicial capacity such officer shall not be held liable for any costs, including attorney's fees, unless such action was clearly in excess of such officer's jurisdiction.
This Bill HR2679
Quote:
Public Expression of Religion Act of 2005 - Amends the Revised Statutes of the United States to limit the remedy to injunctive relief and deny attorneys' fees in a civil action against a state or local official for deprivation of rights where the deprivation consists of a violation of a prohibition in the Constitution against the establishment of religion

So, once/if both bills are passed, the ACLU can still sue of course, only you and I will no longer pay for it. Wink

Yee Haa. They really need to pass this bill.
It really grates to have to pay for slime like the ACLU to erode our rights.
