Were the NY Times inclined to consider Kerry as a candidate of choice in '08, I have serious doubts that this article would have seen the light of day.
Is Kerry now "fair game" among the liberal cognoscenti? Yum yum.

With Democrats increasingly convinced that House control is within their grasp, party activists are publicly excoriating politicians in safe districts who have hefty campaign balances. Mr. Meehan, easily re-elected two years ago with 67 percent of the vote, is at the top of a new list being circulated by Democratic bloggers.

Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, came under fire last week when it was pointed out that he had contributed only $15,000 this year to the party’s senatorial committee. Heyjohn.org, whose creator has remained anonymous, highlights the fact that Mr. Kerry has $14 million in his campaign accounts.

In 2004, over 171,154 Americans donated $328,479,245 and countless hours of time to help John Kerry get elected President. Now, two years later, Democrats have a real opportunity to regain a majority in both chambers of Congress.
John Kerry? He’s still hanging on to $8,352,685 of our money, while Democratic candidates in competitive districts are short on funds, and the DNC, DCCC, and DSCC are out of money.

He can do more.
John Kerry came just short of winning the Presidency. If Ohio had gone a little different…if he had spent our money then….if he had responded to the swift boats then…
How about getting it right the first time instead of regretting down the road?
No one is disputing that John Kerry has shared some of our money and done some great fundraising this cycle. If we win back the House and Senate, we’ll have him to thank for helping out a great field of candidates.
But what if we don’t? What if we fall just short of regaining the majorities needed to get this country headed in the right direction?
We’re calling on John Kerry to let our money go, not because he hasn’t done anything with it, but because he has it in his power (almost $9 million dollars worth) to do more.
It’s time to make a stand when it counts, not in January when the Republican leaders are being sworn in.

Yes, and…
As many of you note in your comments, John Kerry has given money to many campaigns and has done a great job fundraising for candidates in competitive districts. He deserves our thanks for that. (Really.)
But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s sitting on a warchest of $8.3 million that is critically needed right now.
As the Hotline (sub. required) points out, both Evan Bayh and Hillary Clinton are sitting on substantial sums of money.
Here’s the difference: the money that Kerry is sitting on was given to him by folks who thought he would use it to win in 2004 — not save it for 2008. But he didn’t use it. The right thing now would be for him to let our money go so that we can win some elections this year.

Let our money go!
We all know why John Kerry wants to hold on to the money we gave him for 2004, but he has plenty of time left to raise money for 2008. There are only 19 days left until this election.
Even Hillary Clinton (hmm… could she need money for 2008, too?) has donated two million dollars to the DSCC. John Kerry gave them a measly half-million of our money, and he did it last year!
Send an email to info@johnkerry.com, and ask him why he’s holding on to our money. Doesn’t he want to take back Congress before he runs for President again?

Kerry will never let loose the funds. He'd be in direct violation of the Liberal's first rule, "I'ts all about me." Kerry (or any other Liberal for that matter) will step on, or backstab anyone, including their own friends to keep themselves in power.
They have no quams about sharing other people's money, but leave theirs alone.
