if so, I wonder how they, cadets/former-cadets,
feel about being the butt of Kerry's joke? |

An interesting perspective perhaps, but I'd reckon that they'd prefer (and are entitled to) anonymity in that regard (not that the info isn't probably publicly documented and rather easy to unearth). |

Well, there's a limited number of ways to get into a service academy, and getting a recommendation from your Representatives and Senators is the most common way, it's not that hard to figure out who got what from who.
On the other hand, everyone at the service academies is a winner, and is surrounded by winners. Who recognized it and gave them the recommendation is immaterial, and they know it.

I wouldn't put much stock in casting doubt on anyone Hanoi John Kerry may have supported in securing a position in one of the service acadamies. I'm sure it's below his Highness to actually take the time to do that sort of thing personally. It's most likely done by one of his lackeys on official letterhead.
It would make an interesting question during an interview, though.
"Senetaor Kerry, who was the last person you recommended for a spot in a military academy?"
Watch him try and answer that one. He wouldn't have a clue, I'd bet money on it. |
