Rummy and Bush wanted to kill somebody? Actually most
of America was screaming; 'Kill em all,let God sort em
out'! Every time a plane passed over, once we got them
flying again, everybody looked up. Our nation was in
fear and wanted some Muslim Butt-Kickin going on.
Nobody was playing nice and said they never would
again. The left was quiet. If a Muslim said anything
it was;' It wasn't me.'
I knew it wouldn't last but wished it would.
Soldiers were treated with admiration and respect.Lord
they were slaying a bunch of heathens who killed
themselves and others like it was sport and called it
'religion.'
The first chink appeared when the media at home
started to complain the embedded reporters were' too
close to the troops.' They didn't want Ernie Pyle or
my pal Charlie Black. They wanted Peter Arnett who
gave us bogus reporting in Vietnam and carried it on
to the fictitious 'Sarin Gas' and 'Kill the
POW/deserter' story.
America got the war it demanded and just does
not have the intestinal fortitude to see it through.
In two and one half days in April of 1972 I, as the
ground commander, lost twenty five percent( nine
hundred and eighty(980) of all we have lost in this
entire war. Mine were all combat casualties(no
accidents). The opposing commander LTG Tran Van Tra
told me personally he had lost ten thousand killed.
Yet,the 'woe is me' crowd has turned this war into a
finger pointing 'catastrophe.' Excuse me for not being
impressed with the logic behind that. Mark--- |
