For a change of pace from all the political ramblings, I was treated to a day in McMinnville, Oregon this past Sunday seeing the H-4 Hercules built by Howard Hughes, nicknamed "The Spruce Goose."
I have placed some of the photos I took here for viewing, if any desire.
In addition to the Spruce Goose, the building houses several pristine looking aircraft of past wars and in between. Words cannot describe just how massive the Spruce Goose is.
If you ever come out to the Pacific Northwest, don't pass up visiting this museum.

Lew,
Those are great photos! We used to visit the Spruce Goose often when it was displayed down here in Long Beach. We hated to see it go, but Oregon should be very proud of the way the Goose has been displayed. I believe the hangar shows just how large this plane is. The dome it was displayed in here next to the Queen Mary, just did not do it justice! It looked as though from the pictures you took that you can actually sit in the cockpit and get into areas that were off limits here.

Yes, four-niner, you may go up on the flight deck here, provided you pay the extra $50 per person. I wasn't going to go even though I really wanted to, but my wife and oldest daughter snuck off and paid for me and my daughters boyfriends Dad to go up. Little stinkers, LOL.
Still, sitting in the pilots seat and looking out as Howard hughes did is an experience I will always remember.
Evergreen is building another hangar building adjacent to the one holding the 'Goose.' They anticipate receiving the first Space Shuttle to be decommissioned. With the money they are spending to build, my guess it is a little more than just anticipation 
If you ever get up this way, stop by the museum and see what else they have there. The photos I took and posted are but a sample of everything there. It is truly impressive, especially the condition of all of them.

What an awesome air museum. Great photos Lew.
Love the story of Howard Hughes and viewing his mammoth cargo plane made out of wood is high on the list of places to visit.

Quite the collection of aircraft they have, I'll have to take the family there soon. |
