Although Bistro is French, its Origin is Russian
After Napoleon’s defeat in Russia, the french soldiers were less than patient upon returning home to their famously slow cafes and would shout “быстро, быстро,”(beestra, beestra) the Russian world for fast. An enterprising Frenchman decided to open a Café which catered to the soldiers and was very fast by translating this Russian word into French and calling it Bistro.
The correct pronunciation of быстро is beestra, due to how Russians pronounce their unstressed о, yet when translating to french it was easier to copy the literal translation instead of the properly pronounced a sound, thus the world got the French Bistro and their version of fast food.
I have been learning Russian over the past 4 months and my second teacher has turned out to be very good. His name is Roma Solodoff and he teaches over the internet with instant messenger, telephone, mp3’s and word documents. Along with learning Russian, he peppers the studies with interesting things such as the origin of Bistro, as well as cultural protocols and the history of Russia. He can adapt the training specifically to your needs, yet for me, travel is the priority. If you or anyone you know needs a Russian tutor search Dallas and his name or get in contact with me for an email.
Admin's if this reads like an advert, I have no problem removing the last part. _________________ "An activist is the person who cleans up the water, not the one claiming its dirty."
