Why in the world would the USO team up with Moveon.org even if it is to support the troops? They are the vilest group ever in their anti-war, anti-troop stance. Something smells in Denmark!! However, my son, a Marine headed for Afghanistan in a few months, laughed when I told him about this partnership. His response was to let them do it. If he got one, he'd laugh all the way to the phone bank and then bad mouth them the rest of the time!!
I do not remember seeing anything on the Swiftvet Forum about this, but the story was in the Star-Telegram on December 20th for the first time.

This was in the Dallas Star-Telegram on January 2.

NW, we can conjecture forever what might have been behind Powell's decision but, until we can crawl into his mind, I suppose we'll never really know.
Quote: | At least one board member, Vietnam veteran John Gioia, called for USO President Edward Powell to be fired over his decision to accept more than $350,000 from MoveOn's members to buy phone cards for troops overseas.
<snip>
William Moll, chairman of the USO's board of governors, defended Powell's decision, saying in an e-mail to fellow directors that the organization welcomes contributions regardless of the donor's politics. He said special steps were taken to make sure MoveOn didn't make partisan or controversial statements when soliciting their members to give to the USO. |

Bill O'Reilly discussed the uproar with Pete Hegseth, Executive Director of Vets for Freedom.org. http://www.vetsforfreedom.org/. Very interesting. |
