Is Kerry grandstanding and acting important in time for an election? Or, is he actually doing what he was hired to do?

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) says the Bush administration owes “Congress and the American public some answers” in the case of a 22-year-old man who secured nearly $300 million in federal contracts and allegedly delivered faulty ammunition to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
“Faulty contracting procedures and deficient safeguards are no excuse for putting troops in Afghanistan and Iraq in greater danger,” said Kerry.
The senator, who chairs the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, is focusing on whether the company of the man was “erroneously labeled as a Small Disadvantaged Business.” This, according to Kerry, helped AEY Inc. secure multiple contracts.
“The Bush administration needs to explain how and why this mistake occurred not once, but 50 times, and what steps they are taking to make sure that it never happens again,” Kerry said. |

According to a Defense Industry Daily web site article, Quote: | “A Miami-based defense contractor under investigation for delivering faulty munitions to Afghan security forces saw his business boom after being incorrectly labeled as a small disadvantaged business. Before the designation first appeared in the Federal Procurement Data System in mid-2006, AEY Inc., owned by 22-year-old Efraim Diveroli, had done $8.14 million in business with the federal government. Since the SDB label was applied, AEY has earned more than $204 million in federal contracts. But several federal sources told Government Executive that AEY has never been certified as a small disadvantaged business…” |

also brings up and questions the "minority-owned" status.
Does it escape Kerry and others that when problems as this arise, it isn't necessarily Democrat or Republican administrations, but bureaucrats locked into their government positions getting lax? _________________ Clark County Conservative |

Not as long as they can score a "gotcha" against the Administration, Lew. _________________ "In a word, I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home." --George Washington |

And the distortions continue. None of the ammo was for U.S. troops but rather, was for the Afghanis.
He also didn't mention it was procurement that was crammed through the approval process. What surprises me is he didn't blame Jeb Bush for the mess since they are based in Florida. _________________ Why ask? Because it needs asking. |
