With the regularity of a full moon, some press entity somewhere will trot out the FactCheck.org entry on SVPT for some gratuitous Swiftvet bashing. Notwithstanding the rather glaring fact that FactCheck's "investigation" sources read like a who's who of Kerry apologists (to include 2 recipients of Kerry's SF180 largesse), the article is a "journalistic" elixir for the SDS afflicted (that's Swiftvet Derangement Syndrome).

Today the estimable editorial board of USA Today succumbs and presents us the following...

Quote:
Curtail influence of shadowy '527' groups

Presidential campaigns can be tawdry enough with candidates' attacks on each other, but outside groups that operate with few restraints have made the process even more demeaning. The most notorious recent example is the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, an organization that came out of nowhere in the summer of 2004 with unsubstantiated attacks that raised questions about the Vietnam War record of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

USA Today - cont'd

Like most of those who tout this FactCheck treatment as the Rosetta Stone of Swiftvet debunking, few, it seems, actually take the time to read it to its conclusion. Were they to do so, they might be surprised to find the following...

FactCheck wrote:
At this point, 35 years later and half a world away, we see no way to resolve which of these versions of reality is closer to the truth.

Unsubstantiated? Apparently not...according to FactCheck.org.

It comes down to: Who are you gonna believe? One sorry sack of squid politician and compulsive liar or nearly 300 veterans who served at the same time and with the same military unit, many of whom have distinguished themselves through action and deeds.
