In what appears to be a Burlington Free Press op-ed, Vermont resident and Vietnam veteran Michael Rivard serves Kerry (and his odious ilk) a reminder of what "legacy" American history has in store for him...

Whereas American support remained strong throughout most of the war -- and since our forces never lost a major military engagement -- in order to facilitate our downfall and precipitate withdrawal, the Vietnam antiwar left resorted to despicable tactics by charging all who served with war crimes and managed to accomplish this primarily through the use of the WSI.
A small group of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) led by Sen. John Kerry prepared for publicized U.S. Senate testimony, totally subjective, patently suggestive and outright false statements about atrocities ostensibly witnessed and/or participated in by said veterans.
Kerry in his testimony stated the atrocities were "not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command."
"They personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam."
And for good measure, Kerry accused the majority of being drug addicts: "A lot of guys, 60, 80 percent, stayed stoned 24 hours a day just to get through Vietnam."
All those unsupported allegations were reported far and wide as gospel, and was the basis by which millions of Vietnam veterans were painted with a broad brush and had to endure for decades the shame and degradation associated therewith, having had their character impugned, their morals questioned, their integrity doubted, their sanity suspected and, indisputably, their dignity defied, disparaged and destroyed -- simply, for having served their country honorably.
The decades-long, irreparable and permanent psychological and sociological harm resultant therefrom, for Vietnam vets (which occasionally resulted in -- or exacerbated existing conditions of -- post-traumatic stress disorder) is incalculable and, worst of all, was a travesty which was based on deliberate misrepresentations, intentional fabrications and perpetrated with malice and forethought.
What many experienced in Vietnam frequently paled in comparison to what they were subjected to after the war.
Recently, the Iraq Veterans Against the War (supported by the VVAW) staged another WSI outside Washington, D.C., and prior thereto, a Vermonter was quoted as accusing his fellow Iraq veterans of "atrocities" as a matter of "policy."
Fortunately, there are thousands of us Vietnam vets who have vowed never to allow those who have recently served in harm's way to be similarly stigmatized, absent any corroboration.
There is no one who abhors war more than those who have been personally exposed to its horrors, and it is the veteran who has served and sacrificed the most (all gave some -- some gave all) to help preserve our freedoms who will be the first to stand and -- while they may disagree -- defend anyone's First Amendment right to criticize the war, our president, politicians, and even our armed forces.
Nonetheless, for those who deign exploit our brave men and women who have served and scheme to arbitrarily impugn them as one, through unsupported accusations or innuendo, indict them in the court of public opinion or otherwise attempt to advance their cause with such a ruse, we respectfully suggest: "It ain't going to happen -- ever again!"

Kerry is such an elitist, he still hasn't figured out why he lost in 2004.
Thanks to the courgae of a small band of Veterans, the rest of us discovered who that Lieutenant was that threw us under the bus back. As I have said before, being in Germany at the time and after my Viet Nam time, we heard some Officer slandered us, but never knew who.
Once it was revealed, all these years later, the majority of Viet Nam Veterans, still reeling from decades of relentless lies about us and our fight, joined formation with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and fought once again, to deny Kerry his prize and the regain our Stolen Valor.
Hopefully, Kerry will soon be just another elitist civilian licking his political wounds.
May he rot in you know where.

many veterans may still vote for Obama, just as many voted for Kerry! That's why many other veterans see liberalism as a mental disease. My only prayer is that if you wish to vote for the Communist Party's choice for the leader of the free world, do it with open eyes. To vote blindly Dem this year is a vote for the same Communist Party we saw implement the anti-war propaganda of the '70s and again today. The main difference between the 70's and today is that in the 70's the KGB wasn't running for President. |
