While this blogger is probably not too high in the leftist "must read" list, his commentary does represent a rather remarkable divergence from contemporary leftist dogma (and prattle) as to the SVPT being some Rovian concoction dancing to George W. Bush's tune.
Perhaps not earthshaking, but, I think, worthy of note.
Minus the ramblings of just another leftist trying somehow to cope with Carl Rove's rather remarkable track record of leftist opposition smackdowns, here's...

In 2004, Bush defeated another lackluster Democratic candidate, John Kerry, partially because of a wickedly effective dirty trick, the campaign of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. However, this campaign was run by a group of people who had nothing to do with Rove and whose leader, Jerome Corsi, was a member of the far-right Constitution Party and didn't answer to Rove in any way. Bush's most successful Rovian trick therefore had nothing to do with Rove at all.

If such a concession might be muttered by a "progressive" historian, just imagine what a REAL historian might come up with. |

I think this statement is also worthy of attention, considering its authorship:
"Bush defeated another lackluster Democratic candidate, John Kerry"
