Whole Foods Markets, Inc. CEO John Mackey, whose business was primarily built catering to the obsessions of "health food fanatics" (I'll leave you to imagine the political demographics of that particular customer base), has created a bit of a leftist stir with the publication of a WSJ Op-ed quite critical of Obamacare.
While leftist caterwauling and petulance at the slightest hint of "heresy" emanating from an assumed "capitalist" ally (they must, after all, eat SOMETHING purchased from SOMEWHERE) is nothing new or unexpected, what intrigued me most about this story was the opener from Mr. Mackey's editorial (which I have not yet read), dutifully reported by ABC News in their coverage hyping the (cough) "controversy".
It's probably one of the better quips on "socialism" that I've read...
Quote: | "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people's money."
—Margaret Thatcher |
Looking into this "quote" a bit further (I don't know how it managed to thus far escape my notice), while it appears that it is not an exact Thatcher quote (she actually said "They [socialist governments] always run out of other people's money"), it is undeniably an accurate paraphrase of her demonstrated thoughts on the subject of socialism.
Oh that Maggie...what a gal. |
