All I caught was a soundbyte about the Cal Thomas program tonight - they flashed the book. I THINK it said O'Neill would be his guest, but I can't be sure as it happened so fast. He will be discussing the book though... |

I think it late night with Cal Thomas at 11 pm EST.
O'Neill will not get a free ride. Thomas ask good questions and he is fair.
This should play well and I hope people watch. _________________ The war against terrorism is not that Americans might die rather that we would alter our way of living. Cal Thomas is intellectually honest so should make for a great interview. _________________ "An activist is the person who cleans up the water, not the one claiming its dirty."

I can't wait to see how John Hurley flounders with an unbiased host. His performance on Hardball the other day was not good and he had to rely heavily on Chris Matthews. |

Cal Thomas will give a good interview tonight and John Hurley will continue to make the only point he is having any success with - the people who actually served on Kerry’s boat “all” support him.
And, unfortunately, this is the point that seems to be sticking with the public.
Personally, I’m already seeing signs that people are starting to view Kerry as a victim – someone who is being picked on by people who did not know him. And I do not want that to happen.
When being interviewed, John O’Neill must always be conscience of the fact that the overwhelming majority of the people interviewing him (and the overwhelming majority of the audience) were simply not in the military and that they have no idea what life in the military is actually like. He must also accept the fact that some things which seem like common sense to us will need to be explained to them in great detail.
In particular, the people giving these interviews need to be schooled in the fact that swift boat crews were more like the crews of airplanes than the intimate, self-contained units the Kerry campaign portrays as living and fighting together at all times.
I know it seems like this point has been made but it is simply not sinking in where needed. Also, since each show has a different audience, it will have to be made over and over again until the public finally understands that the officers who actually lived with Kerry really did know him at least as well as the crew who manned his boat.
This is very important because the public (and the people giving these interviews) will always rally around the person they perceive as the underdog - the one being picked on by others who were not there.
That said, keep up the good work. |

You've hit the nail on the head here. The reality of life on Swiftboats and how they worked needs to be explained. Most lay people don't understand this stuff and so, unless it's very clearly explained, they'll contunie not understanding it. Half of getting the message out it presenting it terms that people will understand. |
