This is a request for information.
It seems to me that when Kerry was commisioned in the US Navy Reserves he became obligated to serve for 4 years either on active duty or inactive duty or some combination of the two. He was on AD for a year but did he serve the remaining 3 years? |

Check his website for the enlistment contract and other docs. He was still in the Naval Reserves when he came back to bash all the Vets... Don't know how he got away with that one. _________________ Working with Senator Kerry four years in the POW/MIA Office left me thinking -- when did the man ever do any work? |

Kerry receives commission as an Ensign
June 8, 1967
Kerry reports to USS Gridley
June 16, 1968
Kerry promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade
July 20, 1968
Kerry leaves Gridley
November 17, 1968
Upon completion of his training, Kerry reports for duty to Coastal Squadron 1, Coastal Division 14, Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam.
Early April, 1969
Kerry departs Vietnam
April 11, 1969
Kerry reports for duty at the Military Sea Transportation Service, U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Brooklyn, NY.
January 1, 1970
Kerry promoted to (full) Lieutenant
January 3, 1970
Kerry requests discharge
March 1, 1970
Kerry’s date of separation from Active Duty
That's it in a nutshell. 3 years 3 months active duty. Made promotion to O-2 and O-3 on schedule - promotion to O-2 and O-3 were automatic (unless you REALLY screwed up). |
