For all of you who have seen the 1965 film, "In Harm's Way," starring John Wayne, here's something new to look for the next time you see it.

Particular attention to two characters - Cmdr. Neal Owynn (Patrick O'Neal) and Ens./Lt. (j.g.) Jeremiah 'Jere' Torrey (Brandon De Wilde). Cmdr Owynn is an aide to Admiral Broderick and Ens Torrey hooks up with him in hopes of getting a soft assignment in the war.

Patrick O'Neal played his role admirably and leaves you with a distinct feeling you're watching John Kerry in action.

Jeez ... I've got to get away from the news a bit.

After seeing that movie probably 20 times, I still look forward to the part where Kirk Douglas slaps him silly in the latrine (oops...head). Smile

I had seen that movie at least 20 times then when I saw it after JFnK was annoited by the DNC the Patrick O'Neal comparison hit me square in the face. Great analysis!

Every time I come across that movie on TV, I watch it. That one and Run Silent, Run Deep, are my favorites. Yea, I agree. The scene in the head is one of the high moments of the movie. Pay back to the arrogant dog is a great scene.

My thoughts exactly. I also think how political pull stopped John Kennedy from getting court martailed over the loss of his boat. Anybody else that lost a boat like that would have been in trouble.

But my favorate movie about the navy has still got to be, Elvis Prestly in "Girls, Girls, Girls", where Elvis plays the part of a Navy EOD guy. I just love the conversation when they ask him how he likes being a "frogman", Elvis replies, "I'm not a frogman, I am in EOD, that is Explosive Ordnance Disposal".

My altime favorite scene in a movie is in "Das Boot" where the
U-Boat is crippled on the bottom of the Straits of Gibralter. The
Snipes are crawling over the batterys trying to find enough good
cells to jump so they can get underway again. The Captain and
Conning Officer are sitting on the deck in the control room backed
up against the bulkhead. The Captain yells, "I want a report!"
A much harrassed engineering officer yells back "We're working
on it Captain!", and continues jumping battery cells.

Now that's the way it really happens. Very Happy

Being a grunt; one of my favorite movies of all time is "Cross of Iron" Basically there is a hardcore German Sgt. who is fighting on the russian front. A Prussian officer comes to the front to get the Cross of Iron. The officer is a coward and a very poor leader (still pretty topical subject!) At the end of the movie their are hordes of Russians attacking. The Prussian is scared and then the Sgt. throws him a sub machine gun and says "You wnt the cross of Iron...I will take you where they grow!"
