As reported by Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC (after talking to the Kerry campaign), John Kerry's strategy is to keep the Swift Boat Vets' story on cable TV only, where there are NO undecided voters. Cable TV news watchers are intensely engaged in politics and have already made up their minds. Therefore, the Kerry campaign is saying that the Swift Boat Vets will be IRRELEVANT in the election, because no undecided voters are being exposed to the issue (except in a survey and test marketing of a small group).
Therefore, everyone here needs to get the word out to the masses, especially in battleground States. WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR. Take a specific, factual issue from the book or elsewhere. Write a SHORT, SHORT letter that is INFORMATIVE, and backed up with details. (Hint: Write a good letter and then cut it down to 1/3rd size by cutting out any unnecessary words, after having first written a powreful letter.) Did I mention it should be short? If you write it good but short, your chances of getting published increase by 100 over a longer letter. Newspapers have to fill in odd blank spaces in their pages, and if you give them a short letter, they will be tempted to use it to fill in a blank spot. But a long letter they have to rearrange the entire page for.
FOR EXAMPLE: John O'Neill's original reason for coming forward was to rebut the charges of war crimes. Having commanded John Kerry's actual boat (but after Kerry left), John O'Neill could testify as an eyewitness that there were NO burned villages, NO war crimes, etc., on John Kerry's patrol route. Since John O'Neill was there AFTER Kerry's 4 month patrol, O'Neill would have seen if there were any results of war crimes, complaints from locals, etc. Yet it was a complete lie.
That point is getting lost in the public discussion. Kerry supporters are saying that O'Neill's comments are not relevant because he did not serve side-by-side with Kerry. But that was never the point. The point was Kerry's wild claims about war crimes. And on that point John O'Neill is a powerful eyewitness of exactly what Kerry's crew left behind on their patrol route, from the vantage point of Kerry's actual boat which O'Neill took over. So they are changing the subject.
Things like that would make a great letter to the editor.
But if you take a passage from the book and talk about it, you can help increase book sales and get the word out there in its entire telling. _________________ Read first chapter of COLD PEACE for free at www.ColdPeace.com |

Great advice and the how to do it. Most of our newspapers in NJ are pro Democratic but I will send letters to the editor to see if they are published, also many newspapers have web sites which sometimes feature letters to the editor so snail mail is not the only way to contact a newspaper. I also saw the O'Donnel's presentation and he made a great point. I think it will also be helpful to contact the local TV stations and the national broadcasters asking that the swift boat veterans for truth and the book Unfit for Command receive air time. Often advertisers are another good source to support tv programs and to remove offensive tv programs, if pro Kerry programs are aired the sponsors will listen to the viewers - customers are always important. Sponsors usually take the time to provide even formal replies to the consumer related issues.

I found two letters to the editor addressing John Kerry's military service in my local newspaper this morning. So the message is getting around.
