This is a poem my mother wrote to honor my father-in-law and all others who served. I thought it was appropriate for the Swift Boat Veterans.
Leah
REAL HEROES, THEY DON’T BRAG
When Uncle Sam said, "I want you" they answered their country’s call
Left their homes and families and vowed to give their all
They fought battles and won victories and came home from the war
With some wounds you couldn’t see and put their medals in a drawer
They thought of buddies they had lost and were haunted by those scenes
That inhabited their memories and frequented their dreams
But they got jobs and raised families while their stories stayed untold
They were your neighbor or repairman, someone just down the road
With pride they served together and defended their country’s flag
They didn’t boast of their war days ‘cause real heroes they don’t brag

Yes your poem is not only Wonderful but it is Also True. I have known some Heros in my time - But I never heard one of them that really thought they were Heros. Thank You & GOD Bless to all the swift Vets for letting us ALL SEE John Kerry's real color. Regards, Frank[/b] |
