Kerry, the Post and Pogo

“We have met the Enemy and He is us.”—Pogo

Nowhere in my memory can I find an example of of mass Suppression of Truth (hereinafter, “SOT”) that is anywhere near equivalent to what I am seeing and hearing unfold now. At last I am getting a real whiff of what it must actually have been like to live in Eastern Europe in the Iron Curtain age. Up is down; black is white; evil is good; and doesn’t the Emperor look so Leaderlike in Navy whites. No, wait. . . .sure starting to look like a fig leaf. What’s this. . . .dissent? SOT guards, seize that (a) book; (b) video; (c) person.

In Pogo’s most famous utterance, the subject is pollution. In the current case, it’s another “p” word, you guessed it, propaganda. If you doubt that, you’d better be prepared to give me one other reason why the mainstream media continues to manicure its version of the Kerry’s War story oh-so-carefully. They would sooner look at Medusa than check out the facts asserted in the phenomenal new best-seller, Unfit for Command. The SOT folks are reacting to that carefully researched, deeply disturbing book as Dracula did to daylight.

Any sentient person that is being halfway honest with themselves already knows this. For the rest of you SOT-lovers, let me ask a simple question. What in the living hell is going on when a major newspaper like the Washington Post takes a complete pass on the formal invitation to interview six or seven sworn eyewitnesses to various Keystone Kerry Kapers that are the subject of the #1 national controversy and most bitter debate in memory. . . .and at the same time rushes to publish a blazing front page story so obviously based on unseasoned facts? I guess I didn’t mention that the eyewitness brigade was right then ensconced in a Marriott just across the Potomac, which a lunchtime jogger from the Post could reach and still have time to read the paper before jogging back to work. Still don’t get it? How about anguished cries and tortured logic from the New York Times about Bush using ventriloquism with Swift Boat Veterans for Truth—while twisting itself into hilarious contortions to avoid scrutiny of folks like Michael Moore and George Soros. That is, it would be funny if not so tinged with the potential for tragic consequences to our entire system. They are desperately trying to manufacture half-truths and no-truths to pull the compass needle way off true north. This doesn’t bother you? Then keep watching, SOT-enablers, because with your assistance and acquiescence, we’ll surely see a whole lot more.

In the case of John Kerry, Pogo was dead right. Non-SOT Americans damn well better do something about it before it’s way too late. Thank God for the Swift boat veterans. Now all the rest of you, join the Fleet.

Jeff Carrington

I do not subscribe to the Washington Post, but the two Swift Boat stories on page 1 today do not appear to be hit jobs (if I read them correctly!). I'd love to know if they are above the fold, and will check with some of my neighbors to see! It sounds like they have tracked down some of the men who signed the May letter and got them to explain why they signed.

Senator's Activism Made A Lasting Impression

The second article seemed more objective than the first one they did, and pointed out that the ads have damaged Kerry and that Swift Boat Vets have raised $300,000 since all the publicity.

Great letter Jeff, you nailed their coffin.

Thanks Navy wife, I did note the change. With their track record I hate to grant them the benefit of any doubt. Inch and a mile. I'd rather just keep lobbing in H&I for whatever its worth. I'll say I'm sorry when they really show me up.
