I haven't heard a discussion why Mr. Kerry was in Vietman for only 4 months. Was this the length of a typical tour?

Thanks
Cat

Cat,

I'm sure you're gonna get innundated with replies.

Kerry's tour was cut short by 8 months because he racked up 3 Purple Hearts. The basis for those medals is what much of the criticism of him is all about. The SBVT allege there was no enemy fire. He was not hospitalized, and 2 of the "injuries" appear to be self-inflicted through his own incompetence....some grains of rice lodged in his ass in once case, and a sliver of metal the size of a toenail clipping in another.

Cat,
Plz let me add something! I spent 12 months in the RVN in an Army aviation unit. We flew sorties eveyday, 7 days a week. Much of the flying was conducted from only 20-50 FEET above the jungle and terrain. We were shot at constantly! For over 30 years I have not understood how JK could receive 5 medals in actually 3 months (1 month training) of exposure! Either he is one hell of a soldier or he is just plain stupid!

It seems to me that candidate Kerry has been getting battle wounds buy the dozen during this election campaign. I wonder how many such wounds are required to cut his CURRENT campaign short?

Very Happy

Cat,
1 year was he normal tour, unless badly wounded, or sent home in a box. A few guys made it out for schools, etc, but came right back(maybe not to the same unit)
To be sent home after 4 1/2 months speaks volumes about how Kerry was percieved by his 'mates and superiors.
There was no room in the PBR's for someone who was in it for themselves.
Everyone's a** was on the line, all the time, and a self-serving grandstander with his hand on the throttles to scram, would not be long tolerated. It was a probable kindness by his commander to dredge up the "3 and outtahere" regulation, for there was a real and present danger of "KIA-Friendly Fire".
Transfer was preferable to the paperwork necessary after such an incident.

I am a female, soon to be 50 yrs old, who was in jr. high and high school during the war and did not know anyone who fought. What's drawn my interest now is how can Mr Kerry can hold himself as a "war hero" when he jumped on the anti-war bandwagon and threw his comrades under the bus.
IMHO, he's an opportunistic ***** who wants to have his cake and eat it too. He will not debate the facts because they're indefensible.

The "war hero" is sticking to the vets all over again and I hope and pray he won't get away with it.

kerry has stated in some old tv interview when asked about how many medals he'd received he responded..."9 or 8 or something like that", rather self effacing don't you think. SUCH A HUMBLE MAN Rolling Eyes

Best reason not to have him as CiC is because he can't count.

I thought he only had 5 medals. Sounds like a good idea for an ad.

First, welcome (soon) to the half century club.

A lot of people, including myself, were suprised to find that he only served four months. It would be interesting to find out how many others had their tour of duty shortened because of medals.

I give him credit though for going to NAM and not running to Canada. Wouldn't mind if he moved there now, however, or better yet, to France.

I would have rather him run to Canada, it would at least have been honest.

If self inflicted wounds counted then he should be all bled out by now.
