I didn't think they let John talk enough - but he got the book & website out -- so at least people can get the facts -- that Oliphant guy, what a little, tiny man. I read one of his articles this afternoon so I would be ready for the show - he's neatly tucked into Kerry's pocket, so I wasn't too surprised. But his preening, "OH, we journalists have different standards" -- YOU BET YOU DO, and don't we see it loud and clear! Uffttt... I give John credit for having to deal with that awful, pompous guy. MR SNIDY MAN! Yuk.

Oliphant was rude, O'Neill was professional I know that's nothing new of course. However, I do believe it makes Kerry look bad to have others standing up for him, only to act unprofessional.

Lehrer kept trying to get everyone to agree that all the relevant info is out there - in the books and websites.

O'Neill should emphasize that Kerry is refusing to authorize release of his records.

(Remember when the media hounded Bush for weeks until he released every last scrap of his records?)

Oliphant proves the old axium: "It is better to let people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it".

He certainly proved he was a fool.

Just watching Oliphant made me wonder how in the world he thinks he can be credible.

The one thing I personally wish is that John O'Neill had emphasized was that the organization is NOT and NEVER has been a "front organization" for the Bush Campaign.

A commenter on my blog just made this point < http://www.beldar.org/beldarblog/2004/08/wapo_reports_on.html#c1927654 >:

Quote:
There's more to this story...

I just watched O'Neill and Tom Oliphant on Newshour (O'Neill was devastatingly competent, Oliphant -- smarmy and supercillious), and I learned something new which bears on this discussion.

O'Neill said it took AN HOUR AND A HALF to rescue the 3 boat -- during which time they took NO HOSTILE FIRE. This is the first I've heard of the actual timeframes involved.

Well, we have a couple of issues with this new (to me) information:

1. Now all five boats were on-scene for an hour and a half and no casualties from small arms fire were recorded and there were no reports of bullet damage to the boats.

2. All of Rassmann's claims to date have him under fire WHILE HE WAS IN THE WATER. But, by all accounts Kerry picked Rassmann up about five minutes or so after the 3 boat was mined. So I'd like the next guy to interview Rassmann to ask him what he observed as he was drying himself off FOR THE NEXT HOUR AND TWENTYFIVE MINUTES. Was there hostile fire then? Did Rassmann duck? Did Rassmann fire back?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Navy wife--

John may not have said anything on this program, but on Fox News earlier, Brit showed a clip of him answering the "front for Bush" charge. It was brilliant. He said, basically, that he didn't give a s**t about whether this hurt the Bush campaign, because he/they were only interested in dealing with Mr. Panderer-In-Chief.

Victory, John O'Neill. He came across as calm, cool, collected and stated his case with clarity.

Oliphant came across as being a paid Kerry-ite who wears a bow tie and 'swings from the other side of the plate'. We need more matchups like this. Only Elton John would think Oliphant was effective today.

Excellent job, Mr O'Neill !

I think Mr. O'Neill goes out of his way NOT to mention President Bush or his name for some pretty sound legal reasons. All he has to do is make ONE verbal slip in a sentence with the word "Bush" and he's in deep kimchee.

I also think Mr. O'Neill needs to get some quality sleep. Soon. He's been EVERYWHERE all at once for days now. People make mistakes when they are tired, and you can just BET the MSM is working on wearing him out.

Don't you all think that O'Neill referred to the total time it took them to get everyone out of the water and stabilize that boat? Kerry could have returned within five minutes, picked up Rassman and continued to help the other boats?

Thank you, Leslie! I must have missed that line, for I only saw part of it! Now, apparently John O'Neill is going to be on Hannity tonight. Hannity, on the radio today, announced that the Kerry camp had bowed out of tonight's program as they did the O'Reilly show!

Navy wife -- that's the point. Rassmann MUST have been rescued within the first fifteen minutes. I'd like to ask him what he observed as he was drying off FOR THE NEXT HOUR or so. Did he see hostile fire then? Did he fire back?
