Are military records not part of the Public Domain?--Can they not be requested under FOIA?--

Or are they protected under some privacy law or other?--I haven't been able to find a clear-cut answer to this and I, for one, would be very much interested in knowing--

Thanks guys--For everything--C

CandiM,

Many military records especially medical ones are either classified or covered under the privacy act. That's why a Standard Form 180 is essential. Classified records would still have to be santized, but the form releases the privacy act restriction.

The Washington Post used the FOIA to get at Larry Thurow's records, but not Kerry's. I would think if you can get one man's you can get anothers.

The record they pulled was for the actual medal recommendation and they got it through the FOIA. Just like Mr. Odell getting hold of the After Action Report from the San Pan insident.

BTW Mr. Odell. That "Buddy" comment last night was absolutely PRICELESS Shocked Laughing
