Quote: | If I were a political consultant — and I'm not — I would recommend the Swift Boat Vets who were there that day and contend there was no fire — Thurlow, Chenoweth, Odell, and Pease — get out and do another press conference. Take all questions. Offer their affidavits. Read aloud the passages from "Unfit for Command." As of now, the news media shows O'Neill, or just says, "the group" contends this, and each new witness supporting Kerry is considered another strong voice countering the Swift Boat Vets.
The Swift Boat Vets have hundreds of guys. But so far, they haven't really used their overwhelming numbers to counter the idea that one witness supporting Kerry here and one witness there resolves the issue. |

Quote: | And most troubling of all, Kerry has said he spent the last days of 1968 on a secret mission in Cambodia, under fire and listening to President Nixon deny that Kerry or any other U.S. servicemen were operating on the wrong side of the border. In one version, it was the Khmer Rouge doing the shooting. In another, drunken South Vietnamese troops celebrating Christmas, which isn't even a good fable, since Buddhists generally don't get too excited about the birth of the Christians' Messiah...

If you could even get 50 or 60 in a group at one time, it would make an impression that would stick in the public's mind. Excellent idea. I wouldn't all get on the same plane, though, if you know what I mean. |
