If they are going to purport to reporting the truth they shouldn't use lies as their research base.

Yup, I wrote them awhile ago about it... I used to trust Snopes to give me the straight info about urban legends, but it seems a pro-Kerry interest at the site has other plans.

I've used snopes for years as by primary BS meter. When I got the
first e-mail about Kerry's awards being "fishy", I checked snopes. OK.
It's probably a fake. Then stuff just grew. snopes didn't change it's
position. Bye Bye snopes.

The IMPORTANT thing (for snopes, and us in general) is they have DOWNGRADED the authenticity from FALSE to MULTIPLE

This is not a bad thing. I do look forward to the day when it says TRUE

And the LAST UPDATE is 30 July 2004. A lot of information has come to light in the last 3 weeks that is NOT accounted for.

Give them time, I'm sure they are aware of developments and waiting for a resolution (as are we all)

WOW! That's what I requested them to do and hadn't noticed the change!

I have to give snopes credit for changing the status to "multiple"... it shows they're at least trying to be objective. I can recommend snopes once again.

Snopes has always been very Liberal -- and has a tendancy to rewrite the history they don't like. Trust them only on questions you have that don't involve politics or needs a Liberal slant.

This is my first post after lurking a while and reading the many excellent posts on this board. Excellent work here and most vital.

I just checked out factcheck.org and they definetly have a left/Kerry slant, all but calling the Swidt Boat Veterans liars. The entry is dated 8-6 but was modified 8-22. The sources are all the usual Kerry supporters. Perhaps some more knowledgable posters could set the record straight with these folks.

Truthorfiction.com includes some information on the Swift Vets but little in the way of a conclusion.

In the last 3 weeks I've learned more by reading here and on blogs I never knew existed than I could receive from old media in a lifetime. My opinion of those pseudo-professionals in the old media has dropped even further, if such a thing is possible. Those that pontificate without even the slightest accumulation of knowledge is disrespectful to the viewer and to their profession.

As others have already pointed out, this is an improvement over the status they had before this change.

They are now acknowledging that the situation is more complex than originally thought, and cannot be classified as "false"
