It was my understanding back when Kerry served that OCS grads had a total six-year commitment, three active followed by three in drilling Reserves. Having always been USN and having 30 years unbroken service I have no personal experience with that "system" and could be wrong.
Can somebody enlighten me how Kerry seemingly had no Reserve activity/obligations after his discharge in 1/70? It appears he served in the Reserves until 1976, but would all of those years entail NO drills or any other obligation? Moreover, from a legal perspective, if he was commissioned until 1976 was he violating US laws by demonstrating, participating in the St Louis meeting, meeting with DRV representatives in Paris, etc.? _________________ Retired USN Capt.; Market Time vicinity ChuLai 6/67-2/68; Maddox 8/64 Tonkin Gulf; NGFS I Corps 6-12/65; Saigon evac. 4/75. |
