Has anyone bothered to research the shortest amount of time that 3 Purple Hearts were awarded during the Viet Nam war? It would be big news if Kerry would happen to hold that honor. Laughing

I have a friend who was awarded I think 4 purple hearts in one attack. It could have been three at one time, its been a while since I heard the story, but four total duirng his time in vietnam. So it is possible to get purple hearts very quickly. Of course he also spent a long time in the hospital after being wounded and the effects are still visible today. He was wounded during a tank battle.

Just a clip of what's available here:

http://www.judicialwatch.org/archive/2004/kerryawards.htm

"Former Navy physician Louis Letson has reportedly executed a notarized statement that states the injury Dr. Letson treated Kerry for occurred when Kerry and two others (a fellow lieutenant and a crewman), seeing movement from an unknown source, opened fire. Kerry’s rifle jammed, and in the absence of return fire, he resumed firing with a grenade launcher, spraying his own boat and causing a tiny piece of shrapnel to be embedded in his arm. The lieutenant and crewman, parties to the incident, accompanied Kerry to sick call, where they disputed Kerry’s claim that he’d been wounded by hostile fire and provided an account of the actual episode to Dr. Letson—after which Letson removed the tiny fragment with tweezers and covered Kerry’s scratch with a band aid. "

As I asked in an earlier post, are there any Dept. of the Navy statistics (Swiftboat Vietnam duty only) as to how many men received a Silver Star, Bronze Star, 3 Purple Hearts and went home within a four month period? Was Kerry the only one?

I believe (don't quote me - right now it's "hear-say") that the Senator holds THE record for most awards harvested in the shortest amount of time for ALL Viet nam vets.

There is a document on Kerry's website that lists all the medals etc. awarded to those in his unit, that year, I believe 1969. There are 2 others that got PH, he was the only one that got a Silver Star, and a few others, 2 of which were part of his crew got Bronze Stars.
